Graduation

17th Dec 2007

I can just imagine standing beneath the rustic old arches of the law courtyard- its summer and the flowers are in full bloom. I would be wearing my gown with an olive green echelon representing the Faculty of Science . Camera flashes all around as other smiling parents stand with their children- but alas I'm in Singapore and most probably wearing my labcoat stained with coomassie brilliant blue protein dye. But I'm happy to be home to have ran my marathon and to be with my family and friends.

Finally a BSc. graduate. I feel the day is as important to celebrate despite being miles away from Melbourne.. hopefully Dr Sunil Kumar Sukumaran (aka. Beloved Leader) will not prank me for the day as a celebratory gift.. anyway off to sleep :) Dreams will be sweet- I've completed my basic degree :)

"Adrenaline keeps me in the game
Adrenaline you don't even feel the pain
Wilder than your wildest dreams
When you're going to extremes-
It takes adrenaline..."

- 'Adrenaline' by Gavin Rossdale, XXX OST

I did it.. my first half marathon.. 21.1km in 1:53:47 (the average race time was 2:38:46) and it was an incredibly uplifting experience.. I never would have imagined a fatboy could actually do it. It was a really good feeling- the first 5km was torturous... at the drink stations I ran and tried to drink on the simultaneously- I ended up with 100 plus in my eyes.. It really irritated me cos it got all sticky..

My heartbeat monitor showed an average of 164bpm during the race with the maximum of 177bpm. I really don't know how I pulled thru.. Thank God I did.. I've never ran anything close to 21km before.. and it was a trip to be remembered.. I wouldn't have done it without God's strength.. during the course of the race I reminded myself that the 164(bpm) x 113(min) heartbeats was for His glory and not my own.. that I can encourage others that if I can do it, they can too..
After the run I went back to Church camp to be reunited with my friends.. who painted me with permanent markers to celebrate..

Wei Lin who ran 21.1km in 1hr 41min- I painted onto her "I OWNED KENCHIN"

It just felt so good to be reunited with my friends once again..

Here's Kwek and Quek.. brothers forever man :p

Anyway.. I thank God for taking me thru this.. its not in any part by my own strength but His..

To God be the Glory

Run

RUN KENCHIN RUN DAMMIT!!!

Standard Chartered Half Marathon 2nd Dec 2007 21.1km

Running Tag: 28200

mixed feelings.. am I really ready for it? do I have what it takes? 2nd Dec will decide.. Anyway they're giving out bananas and powergels there on the spot for the run.. I should just bring NTUC plastic bags with me and kope them all.. well crossing the finishing line with plastic bags filled with powergels must be quite an entertaining view :) Oh well..

Holi-DEHHH...

Its hot, its stuffy, it pours buckets and its filled with people.. YES ITS HOME! I couldn't get used to the weather here and pace of life.. everyone seems to be rushing or going someplace or somewhere. Spending 10 mths in melbourne, its very interesting to note that you avoid people differently in Sg.. the oncoming "traffic" is so much faster and more stubborn from moving out of their way...

Still trying to adjust to the atmosphere here.. many a times I tried to reach for the imaginary string to stop the tram, only to realise I'm on bus 154.. the beeps of ezlink card machines replacing the mechanical sounds of the tram card validators..

I'm trying to reconcile Jon Lai's hypothesis about people interaction and smell in the context of Singapore- because the smell of sweat is just rampant even in an enclosed airconditioned MRT. Maybe it just takes a while to get used to it- afterall in a biochemical perspective, our olfactory senses adapt very quickly from desensitization..

Strange that I'm home and I miss Melbourne- more like the people there.. home's so sheltered, everything I need is provided to and for me.. I don't have to do "GRO-SHREE" (Chua, W.L. 2007) shopping.. food is in such abundance.. to think of the nights when hungry stomachs recieve indomee.. here, you can eat almost anytime of the day.

I miss the OCFers..

Anyway, as requested by Ruthie, I shall put up her "advertisment" :)

*WARNING- the following advertisment is rated*

If there's something strange in the court room, who 'ya gonna call?!

THE LEGISLATOR

(like the terminator but better- cos she won't be back)

Ruth G with P-I-M-P'ed LLB

(picture courtesy of the very talented Huang Yen Khai)

To advocate, equivocate, adjudicate, legislate, obfuscate, differentiate, integrate (huh?! ay she'll just ask juwen to do that for her..) and if necessary.. TERMINATE...

Her clean sheet in the law courts without a single case lost make her a formidable opponent (you didn't that she's never fought a case.. but techinically its correct right? its true that she hasn't lost a case!) and with her incredible law skills she will beat the living constitution out of all she prosecutes.. if not with her law skill, then with her law textbooks!

In the event of adversity, she calls upon her trusty side kick Grace 'Maria' Ping! (kinda like a Batman and Robin situation- Robin not very auto so only when Batman calls then Robin will come.. and when Robin gets into trouble, Batman damm sian..)

Flexible payment plans encompass credit, debit and tidbits (must be of substantial quality). So yes! Inquire now if you need a legislator!

Mess with the best, die like the rest! (yes ruth's words will leave u hanging)
